Osteosclerosis in myeloma.

چکیده
In multiple myeloma the typical bone lesions are usually purely osteolytic and the presence of any osteosclerosis suggests that the diagnosis should be reconsidered. There have now been reports of forty-nine patients with myeloma with osteosclerotic deposits in whom radiotherapy could not be implicated as a cause (Kr , Wiedermann, Vykydal and Soyka 1967; Evison and Evans 1967; Osuntokun, Akinkugbe and McFarlane 1969; Mopkar and Patel 1970; Talerman and Bateson 1970). We describe a further patient with osteosclerotic myeloma whose case is very unusual in that a large part of the skeleton was affected.

A case of IgD myeloma presenting as diffuse osteosclerosis
A case of IgD myeloma accompanied by diffuse osteosclerosis is reported. A trephine biopsy specimen showed only reticulin fibrosis, but histomorphometric analysis of a full thickness transiliac bone biopsy specimen showed increased trabecular bone mass, with no local deposit of tumour. An excess of bone surfaces were covered by osteoid seams, all of which showed active mineralisation, indicatin...

متن کاملIgE myeloma with osteoblastic lesions.
A 69-yr-old man with persistent anemia had multiple myeloma with an IgE-type kappa M component and Bence Jones proteinuria. Bone x-rays revealed occasional lytic lesions associated with a diffuse sclerotic reaction throughout the skeleton. Special bone histologic studies utilizing tetracycline labeling, undercalcified sections, and microradiography confirmed active osteoblastic activity. This c...
متن کاملMyeloma and benign intracranial hypertension.
Benign intracranial hypertension is uncommon, with a prevalence of 0 9 per 100 000 and a noticeable female predominance (8:1). Several associations have been reported including with proliferative haematological disease such as polycythaemia rubra vera, essential thrombocythaemia, and paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria. In a series of 29 men with benign intracranial hypertension an empty sella...
متن کاملComputed microtomography of bone specimens for rapid analysis of bone changes associated with malignancy.
Breast and prostate cancers are specially metastasizing to bone. Metastases from breast cancer usually exhibit a mixed osteolytic/osteosclerotic aspect, with osteolysis predominating. Osteosclerosis is a common finding in prostatic cancer although osteolysis occurs within the sclerotic lesions. B-cell malignancies (lymphoma, myeloma) are also associated with marked osteolysis. Histopathological...
